"Gay" just seems so clinical. "Fruit" makes the think of big fruity hats those dancers wear. :3 I'll also add I'm from the south, so odd terms of endearment isn't new to me. But if someone down here wanted to call out a gay and make him feel ostracized, he wouldn't use the term "Fruit".
