WebIPBC is extracted from the cosmetic preparation using methanol. IPBC present in the sample extract is separated using reverse phase HPLC with mass specific detection (LC-MS or LC-MS/MS). Quantitative determination of IPBC is made using the external standard method of calibration or standard addition. 3 Reagents 3.1 General WebIn personal care products, formaldehyde can be added directly, or more often, it can be released from preservatives [3] [4] such as quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, polyoxymethylene urea, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, bromopol and glyoxal. These preservatives release small amounts of formaldehyde over time.
